David Bowie was born David Robert Jones on January 8, 1947 in London, England. Bowie first took up the saxophone at age 13 and 3 years after high school, he started playing in bands. In 1966, he changed his name from David Jones to David Bowie to avoid confusion with the Monkees frontman, Davy Jones. In 1967, Bowie released his debut album, The World of David Bowie. He has since released many albums.
